PLAY BALL!

Grandson Knox and his team played their first T Ball game of the season tonight.
His team was first to bat

Knox is easy to spot in his white helmet. Watching these teams fielding is fun and funny and always chaotic.

Knox played first base toward the end of the game. His team lost this one by four runs I think. Good game and they all played well and seemed to enjoy it. Lots more games ahead.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME

We went to a TTU men's baseball game this afternoon. Attending a college baseball game is a first for us. Grandson Elijah, who plays coach's pitch baseball, has been practicing with one of the assistant baseball coaches at Tech and was interested in seeing the big boys play ball. It was the second game in a double header today with the Murray State Racers and didn't start until four. It was summertime hot today. We were grateful for those clouds that moved in over the sun.
They had a great turnout, pretty crowded, and we ended up sitting on the Murray side. We found it amusing that 90% of the people there were female. Maybe the guys on the team have lots and lots of lady friends. Here's our bunch from left: grandson Knox, hubby Neil, grandson Elijah and his friend Anthony, who brought their gloves just in case a stray ball came flying their way, daughter Holly and granddaughter Shelby. (Photo by daughter Kelly. Thanks for sharing!)
We didn't make it into the group shot, so Kelly took this selfie of the two of us. (Thanks for sharing the pic, Kelly!)
The first inning was fun to watch. Tech got off to a great start. Their player #11 popped a beautiful home run over the right field wall. Murray rallied, hitting a couple of their own home runs which made it a game. But not being baseball junkies, we soon realized and remembered that, yes, baseball moves at a snail's pace, which is simply the nature of the game, and it might be more fun watching paint dry, so we left after the end of the 6th inning, two hours later. Tech was still ahead at that point, and they did win the game, 12-7. They won all three of their games this weekend. Yay, Eagles! (Thanks for this picture, Kelly!) Good times with family. Hope your ever lovin' Saturday was a home run, too!

WAY TO GO, ELIJAH ~ VISION BASKETBALL AWARDS NIGHT 2015

"Give me the vision to see what God wants me to be. I will do my very best and let God take care of the rest. No matter the outcome of this game, I will give glory to Jesus's name."

Tonight was Vision Basketball awards night. Grandson Elijah has played the past three years. He was totally wishy-washy about attending the awards ceremony tonight. He wanted to go but he was very nervous about having to stand up in front of all those people. His Grandpa talked him into it, and Elijah decided to go at the last minute (which is why he didn’t have his team shirt to wear).

Each team member received a participation award or team trophy, which Elijah was very pleased to get.

This was the stunned look on his face when he received the “Paul Award”, which is the award for most improved player on his team this season. He was totally taken by surprise (and I love that he was). He kept saying, “I was not expecting this.”

We are so proud of you, Elijah Man! Proud that you were brave enough to overcome your fear of standing up in front of all those people. And proud that you played so well this season, improving with every game and having fun while you played so hard with your teammates. Way to go! Looking forward to watching you play next season.

“The only real game, I think, in the world is baseball.” ~Babe Ruth

First game of the season for grandson Elijah this evening as he gears up to play coach’s pitch baseball. His team is the Diamondbacks [Dbacks].

He’s playing second base [mostly] again this season.

He got a big hit that went all the way to the fence, but the other team was too quick and got him out before he hit second base.

The Dbacks ended up getting clobbered by the other team 15-2, but there are plenty of games ahead to do better next time.
