I try not to limit my madness to March. ~Maxine

March 1
Watch out, crabgrass. He’s coming for you.
March 3
Ella art
March 4
Light at the end of the tunnel
Good times at Dogwood Park
March 6
Knox zooming by on his Hoverboard
Ella just learned how to ride a bike and got the hang of it pretty quickly
March 8
A tiny almost-Spring bouquet
from Ella
March 10
Time for some backyard T-ball
March 11 ...
…. we were wondering if it would snow on the buttercups …
… March 12
Of course it did
"Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer." - Anita Krizzan.
And here, once again using the deck furniture standard of measuring snowfall,
I’d say that’s a good four inches. Or five.
Snow day is a good day for pizza at Mamma Rosa’s with family and friends
Sunshine made for some truly epic icicles
We couldn’t get enough pictures of them knowing they’d be gone by tomorrow
And they were
Donut run
We don’t discriminate when it comes to local tasty pastries
But first, comfort food on a cold snowy evening
March 17
Rock Island State Park is about an hour’s drive from our house
Ready for hiking a trail on this beautiful Spring Break Day
Moi, Holly, Elijah, Neil, and Knox
This was our first visit to Rock Island
I could’ve stood there watching the waterfalls and rapids all day
Let the trek begin
The only difficult part of the hike was being on constant alert
for trip hazards — roots, rocks, and hidden holes on the trail
Neil was in no hurry and brought up the rear. When he and Knox hike, they like to stop
and take in their surroundings. I was too busy trying not to face plant. I did look up now and then.
Holly and Elijah enjoyed time away from work and school
Knox wore an actual St. Patrick’s Day T shirt
I was clueless about the date. My T just happened to be green
It did protect me from unwanted pinches, though

Taking a break down by the river
We all enjoyed our three mile hike but, tired and footsore, were glad to reach the end of the trail
Great Falls Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Caney Fork, straddling the county line between White County and Warren County in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is the only dam outside the Tennessee River watershed owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Wikipedia
Don’t say I never taught ya nothin'
March 24
First time in more than two years we’ve had the opportunity to target practice
Had to show off my bullseye
I’m consistently inconsistent
Neil consistently hits the center
March 25
Must be Friday
Micky D’s with Kelly, Knox, and Ella plus special guests Elsa and Anna
Elsa is here for the McFlurry
March 26
We travelled to Greenbrier to meet our 4 month old great nephew and cousin for the first time
He’s a cutie. Ella treated him like a real live baby doll which he seemed okay with
From there we went to visit Shelby at her college and got to see where she lives while she
studies for her degree in marine biology
Enjoyed a yummy meal together at Cheddar's
Holly and Shelby
Mom and daughter don’t get to see each other much these day
Hooray for Face Time though
March 28
March 30
Crabapple blooms
Hope these ferocious winds don’t strip them off the tree
before we’ve had a chance to enjoy them
March 31
Ella had the best time painting characters from the movie Frozen this afternoon
Neil found the paint with water book at Sam’s, and it was a winner.
We had to convince her to leave the book here and save some pages for later
It was a hard sell, but we hit on a compromise to leave the book but take a couple
of pages home to paint.
It’s all good, right?

"And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees and changing leaves..." ~Virginia Woolf

October 1
Neil has put in a lot of back-breaking hours
over the last couple of years trying to get
grass to grow in our front yard
Looks like third time is the charm

Knox and Ella jumping in a pretend mud puddle (scorched earth left from our recent campfire) just like Peppa Pig and friends

Ring around the rosie

The falling down is easier on a trampoline
I'm thinkin' Arby's
because we can actually sit inside and eat
First amendment alive and well
in small-town USA

October 5
Fall Break
Neil took Knox hiking at City Lake
The only thing I hate about this time of year
is the sun hanging just below the visor all day long
My niece Julia celebrated her 23rd
October 7
Knox and Neil had such a great time hiking at the lake
that they went back, this time in search of the waterfall
Turns out the waterfall was just a few
yards ahead from where they left off
on their first hike
October 8
Good times on the trampoline
October 10
October 1 1
May have to get her a cone next time
October 13
Nice shootin' there, Tex
I'm thinkin' Wendy's
because we can actually sit inside and eat
October 14
Elijah mastered the backward flip
on the trampoline when he was little
I still pray, after all these years,
that he won't break his neck
Ella was fascinated by the spot of sunlight
on the kitchen floor
and her shadow
Before we went outside, she picked out
a pair of shoes to wear
Couldn't find the mate to the black sandal
so the pink tennis shoe worked for her
Her choice even though those little toes
hung over the top of the sandal

Ella's leaf bouquet
"Here's another weaf, Granny."
That face you make when the strawberry is not sweet
Elijah, Shelby, Knox, Kerry, and Neil
went hiking around Burgess Falls
They had a great time and shared their pics with me

Things you see on your way home from early voting
Dinner and a movie night with Shelby and Elijah
Easy to clean your plate when it's a
mountain of chocolate pudding
We also hit Ralph's for doughnuts
And then we watched Halloween (the original)
and Poltergeist (also the original)
Always a fun time with these two
October 18

For the artist, anything (or anyone)
can be a canvas
It was dress up like a character from
your favorite book day at school. I can't remember the
name of the character but he's from the
Spirit Animal series. Knox has devoured this series.
October 30
My sister Jane came thisclose to being a Halloween baby
Never mind 59. She's ageless.

Once in a Blue Moon
"It won't happen again until 2039. But wait, there's more: The Oct. 31 full moon also happens to be a "blue moon," a designation for the second full moon to occur in a single calendar month. Blue moons are relatively rare as well, occurring on average just once every 2.5 years or so."

"The full moon that will be visible on Oct. 31 is called the blue moon because it's the second full moon of the same month -- following the harvest moon of Oct. 1 through Oct. 3. And in a rare treat, the 2020 Halloween full moon will be visible to the entire world, rather than just parts of it, for the first time since World War II."

Our neighbor had a broken water line today
and had to dig a deep hole to locate the break.
They made the best of the situation and turned
it into a great Halloween decoration.

Halloween is my most favorite holiday
It's a great fun tradition we enjoyed once again
and hoping we'll do it all over again next year
Happy Halloween!
