My 'baby' sister, Jane Foy, celebrated her 54th birthday today. [54?!] The cake, ice cream, and punch were seriously delicious, and the flat presents [a.k.a. cards with cash inside] were well received by the birthday girl. Happy Birthday, Jane! I love you bunches and then some! Hope all your birthday wishes come true!

AUTUMN DAYS
October's the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down —
October is red
And golden and brown.

NASHVILLE FLEA MARKET ~ the BIG one
If you get to go to the Nashville Flea Market only once a year, then go to the one in October. It’s billed as “The Big One” because it is. It’s huge. It’s packed with all sorts of stuff. It takes hours to see it all, if you insist on seeing it all.
Two of my favorite things I never buy ~ vintage boots and vintage cameras
Big mix of Halloween and Christmas, mostly Christmas it seems ~ lots of creepy Santas
Creepy Santas rank right up there with creepy clowns
Not even sure how to label this ~ looks like a baby in a top hat smoking a pipe ~ I’m sure somebody out there needs one of these if they’ve got 48 dollars to burn
Camo man? Bigfoot? Chewbacca?
She’s a lamp
I can’t tell you how many dead animal heads I saw today ~ I think we saw a guy carrying this around later on in the afternoon
Coolest pumpkins ever ~ they were such odd shapes, part green, part orange ~ would’ve bought one but I didn’t want to carry it around all day ~ our truck was parked far far far away ~ sometimes you just have to look and [take a picture] and move on
SEC ~ to name a few
Our main goal today was to find a mantel for the gas fireplace we recently had installed ~ Neil didn’t think we’d find one with an opening large enough to fit around it ~ but this one happened to fit the measurements we needed
It’s a monster of a mantel and insanely ornate which is a far cry from what we usually go for, but the more we considered it, the more it grew on us ~ the vendor says it came from a home in Paris [Tennessee, that is] ~ built sometime in the late 1800’s ~ it’s well worn and pretty chipped up but nothing Neil can’t handle ~ after much debate, we bought it ~ plan on painting it black ~ and decided if we hate it, we can always sell it
Let’s go for a rusty bike ride
Is it Christmas? Is it Halloween? Throw in a turkey and we can do it all at once and get it over with [you’re always in a time warp at the flea market]
This baby photo bombed our gratuitous selfie
Rawr! Oink! Dinosaurs and piggies! Run for your life!
Lunch! A big fat steamed hot dog ~ it was yum
Earrings made out of pocket watch faces ~ unique ~ love clock faces ~ earrings not so much
Now watch me nae nae (Okay!) ~ [sorry ~ I had to]
Coolest lava lamp ever
Hey, you! BOO!
He must have been pretty awesome when he was running around in the woods
One of those cars that drives itself
This was by far the strangest thing I saw all day
One of these days I’m going to buy one just for the heck of it
Go VOLS! Beat bama!
The boogie man ~ ‘a common allusion to a mythical creature in many cultures used by adults or older children to frighten bad children into good behavior’ according to Wikipedia ~ we all know there’s no such thing. Right?
Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today …
… but I thought you were going to marry me!
Come fly with me [and Dracula]
Oh wait. THIS was by far the strangest thing I saw today ~ a stuffed fox dressed up like … I can’t even begin to guess ~ it had a tiny baby doll in its paw
All our Star Wars friends
Big Daddy Darth ~cue the heavy breathing~ [I am your father!]
Go TITANS!
This is a telephone ~ believe it or not
Some crafty soul made a lamp out of a flour sifter and a tripod
Vintage cast iron bank ~ heavy as all get out ~ I bought it and had to carry it around the rest of the day ~ until Neil took pity and put it in our backpack [which he lugs around ~ it has rollers so he can drag it now and then]
This was just sad and kind of creepy ~ it might have been a cast iron bank ~ no, thanks
I KILL you! Achmed? Is that you? Maybe his brother …
This one’s for you, son in law Jerry [and hubby Neil who may get to go fishing someday]
$25 ~ Released in June 1967, Rolling Stone called it "the most important rock & roll album ever made ... by the greatest rock & roll group of all time." ~ can’t remember how much it cost back then ~ a family friend gave us a copy ~ it disappeared from my album stash never to be seen again [by me anyway] ~ Neil asked me if I’d like to buy it ~ I said No. I’ve got the CD.
This creepy little doll head was peeking out the top of a flower pot ~ I looked in the pot ~ it was filled with dirt ~
This is our treat when we go to the flea market ~ Fried Pies ~ I get chocolate chess, Neil gets raisin ~ while we were eating them [yum!] this lady stopped and asked us what we were eating ~ I said Fried Pies! [with an exclamation point because they are just that good] ~ and she said Oh okay and went on her way ~ I told Neil no way is she from the South
Couldn’t have ordered a nicer day to be outside browsing around the BIG one
At the end of the day we loaded up our monster mantel [no easy feat] and the neato bookcase I found …
… and headed home …
… and saw this mini me mini Coop on the back of a truck ~ wouldn’t that be fun to tool around in?
Happy TGIF, y’all!
