EVER LOVIN’ SATURDAY ~ FUN WITH GRANDPEEPS!

0927141256c
Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah spent the afternoon with us. We enjoyed lunch at the D.Q. and yummy frozen treats for dessert.

Headed over to the pumpkin place to check out all the goodies there.

Shelby was on a quest to find the tiniest pumpkin.

Elijah loves the gourds and squashes and picked out some gnarly ones.

Shelby found her itty bitty pumpkins. She says they’re like kittens and puppies ~ so cute you can’t help oo-ing and ah-ing over them.

We always seem to find one like this and have to take a picture because it’s so funny [in a self-explanatory way, wink wink].

Later, after the Vols lost a heartbreaker to the Dawgs, we finally put down our electronic devices and headed outside to soak up some more of this gorgeous day.

We went for a walk, and Elijah threw the Frisbee with Grandpa.

Street Frisbee ~ got to watch out for cars ~ not only so they don’t run over you, but also so you don’t smack one with the Frisbee

For me, Autumn/Fall is the most wonderful time of the year.
0927141704
The temperature is perfect, the sky is a deep blue you don’t much see throughout the rest of the year, and the clouds are simply awesome.
0927141726
On our trek around the block, we walked through Capshaw woods. Neil spotted this spider’s web stretched between a tree and the ground. It was glistening in the sunlight ~ otherwise, we might have walked right into it. Hard to take a picture of it ~ kept getting sun flare.

Shelby and Elijah love to walk through these woods. Who needs electronics when you can scratch your name in a tree trunk with a stick or fly through the air on a vine like Tarzan?

The leaves are starting to turn. That’s always bittersweet. Good times with the grandpeeps! Hope your Saturday was awesome!

RANDOM THIS THAT AND THE OTHER

Granddaughter Shelby strikes a pose after her first day of eighth grade. She’s growing up way too fast, too! Daughter Holly ~ chauffeur extraordinaire.

My engineer hubby never ceases to amaze me with his ability to take this ……

……. so I can do this. My orthopedic doc who did my knee surgery back in June said riding a bicycle would be perfect for building up those large upper leg muscles [which makes for stronger knees]. I don’t enjoy riding a bike, so now I can do the next best thing on our stationary bike. I can ride for miles and miles and go absolutely nowhere. I’ve been riding for several weeks now and can tell a big difference in my leg strength.

Candy Corn. Love it. Hate it. There is no middle of the road when it comes to candy corn. I love it. Saw it at the store last week. Could not resist. Can Fall be far behind?

Daughter Kelly and grandson Knox checking out the stash of books in our neighborhood Little Free Library. Such a cool thing. Every neighborhood should have one.

What kind of bee is this? It looks like it’s wearing body armor.

Our hydrangea bushes are finally blooming. Seems late this year. So pretty.
0822141854 Walking around the block as the sun sets ~ sometime last week. We try to walk often these days. Strengthens those leg muscles and all, you know. Neil got caught up in the rays of light.

This evening after supper, we ended up at Ralph’s. What a sweet way to end this random TGIF. Hope yours was happy.

Good Day Sunshine

0221141205a
After the big bad storm rumbled through last night, we were left with a crisp, cool blue sky day and loads of sunshine.
0221141204
Neil and I went for a walk around the block after our Slim Fast lunch. My left knee hasn’t done all that well since the surgery I had done back in January to repair a torn meniscus. I have other issues like osteo-arthritis and bone on bone troubles from worn away cartilage in that same knee. At my last check up, the bone doc drained  a bunch of fluid off my knee [I know, yummy, right? Not!] and gave me a cortisone injection, which has made a huge difference in my pain factor. Anyway, it was nice to get out and walk and not wonder if Neil was going to have to carry me back home.

It’s hard not to long for spring on a day like today. Even the buttercups are hoping.
IMG_3030
The dogwood trees in our yard are starting to bud. I want to tell them not to get ahead of themselves. There may be blue sky and sunshine today.
IMG_3032
But it’s still winter, and the last little bit of our wood pile is stacked on the back porch, ready for the wood stove.
0221141548
I had a request from grandson Elijah to get some ice cream this afternoon after school. And grand daughter Shelby happily said yes to that. Sunlight seems to bring out that urge in people. We headed to Cream City where they had scoops of Cake Batter and Cookie Dough and I bravely abstained from the sweet treats. It was not easy, believe me.
0221141835
This evening, we had supper with grandson Knox and daughter Kelly at Ocha Thai Food Deli which is always yummy. Knox loves the carrots and broccoli there. He dips them in sweet and sour sauce. The place was packed tonight, apparently with folks who had come to see TTU’s first baseball game of the season. You know spring is near when there’s a baseball in the air.
0221141837
Knox showed off his arm full of Angry Bird [and pig] tattoos. Way cool.
0221141854
By the time we got home from supper, my homemade bread was ready to pop out of my [magic] bread making machine. It really is magic. Warm bread. Lots of butter. Heaven.
IMG_3040
Kelly shared the last of her  monster sized chocolate dipped strawberries which we devoured. Also heaven. Nobody gets too much heaven, as the Bee Gees song goes. So true. Hope you experienced a little heaven along your way today. Happy TGIF, everyone!

Just because everything is different doesn't mean anything has changed. ~Irene Peter

0216141353d
Peace, y’all! Just wanted to let you know, in case you’ve dropped by this blog more than a few times, that I’ve made some changes [thus the above quote] which have given me the chance to provide a way for you to follow this blog if you’d like to. Links are at the bottom of the page. I hope you’ll follow and drop in whenever you get the chance.
0216141352
Daughter Kelly and Grandson Knox stopped by the house this afternoon and invited Neil and me to go for a walk/ride around the block. Knox is saying, “Where’s Grandpa?” Grandpa was on the other side of Knox’s sweet ride.
0216141353a
The wind was a little chilly, but who cares when it’s 50 degrees with lots of blue sky and warm sunshine, making it an awesome day to be outside.
0216141355
The weather folks say we’ll be warming up quite a bit this week. Won’t that be nice!
0216141614a
Clouded up later this afternoon. Bummer. You’ve got to grab that blue sky while you can get it. Have a wonderful week, everyone!
