“Some of the days in November carry the whole memory of summer as a fire opal carries the color of moon rise.”
~Gladys Taber

“Fallen leaves lying on the grass in the November sun bring more happiness than the daffodils.”
~Cyril Connolly

November 9
Neil painted our bench black. Used to be red.
Ditto for the swing.
Pulling up the dead things
Jeff the scarecrow seems to like the black bench. Hard to tell 'cause he's always smiling.

Blessed all day every day

“In November, the trees are standing all sticks and bones. Without their leaves, how lovely they are, spreading their arms like dancers. They know it is time to be still.”
~Cynthia Rylant, In November

Ella loves the Lazy Cow Creamery ice cream
Whatever flavor her mom's having
November 11
Ella's dad snapped this picture of her while they were on a walk around the neighborhood
She's bundled in the warm unicorn costume she wore for Halloween.

“November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows."
~Clyde Watson

Woke up to some snow
It snowed this day 43 years ago when daughter Kelly was born
Unusual for middle Tennessee but not unheard of

I can't believe the kids went to school. They're usually out if there's a snowflake.
School started two hours late. But no snow delay for Kelly. She dropped off Knox so Grandpa could walk him to school.
Listening to tunes while waiting in line to pick up grandson Elijah and this one popped up.
At that point, it was 25 degrees.

FYI: white chocolate covered Oreos are da bomb!
November 21
Can't stop taking pics of the sky, especially one like this
Meanwhile, Neil waits for me to be done taking pictures of the sky so we can go on a morning walk around the neighborhood
Either that, or he's guarding the trash can
November 25
Her joys are simple
Books
And a washcloth to carry around or wear on her head
What?
November 26
Ella's cousin Shelby dropped by to visit
These two always have fun with Snapchat

Its passage. All seems tranquil, all in tune.”

Thanksgiving
Stick a fork in me. I'm done.

“Don't wait until the fourth Thursday in November, to sit with family and friends to give thanks.
Make every day a day of Thanksgiving!”
~Charmaine J Forde

The geese were heading south Thanksgiving day
There were two or three waves of them flying over
Traditional Thanksgiving Day walk about the neighborhood
We burned up all those calories we just consumed.
Actually, that's a bald-faced lie about those calories.
You probably guessed that.

November 29
And so it begins ....

November 30
Christmas shopping today
(We avoid so-called black Friday.
Unless they're giving away free money, then there's no reason to leave the house that day.
So we assembled our fake pre-lit Christmas tree and hallelujah! decorated it on black Friday.)

Autumn is quickly fading into memory
Thankful for a lot of things and a lot of people
Thankful for these photos I snap and this little blog I keep so I can remember
As the saying goes, the days are long but the years are short.

Let misty autumn be our part!
The twilight of the year is sweet:
Where shadow and the darkness meet
Our love, a twilight of the heart
Eludes a little time's deceit.

Are we not better and at home
In dreamful Autumn, we who deem
No harvest joy is worth a dream?
A little while and night shall come,
A little while, then, let us dream.

Beyond the pearled horizons lie
Winter and night: awaiting these
We garner this poor hour of ease,
Until love turn from us and die
Beneath the drear November trees.”
~Ernest Dowson, The Poems and Prose of Ernest Dowson

Gnight, November
Come in from the cold
We're making hot cocoa
with WHOLE milk: we're bold.
CHILL, November. CHILL.”
~Lin-Manuel Miranda

“Groundhog found fog. New snows and blue toes. Fine and dandy for Valentine candy. Snow spittin'; if you're not mitten-smitten, you'll be frostbitten! By jing-y feels spring-y.” ― Old Farmer's Almanac

February whooshed by me and vanished seemingly in the blink of an eye. Time! Slow down! Thought I'd share some snapshots I managed to capture from the month of February.
February 2 ~ a groundhog sky ~ he lied, ya know
February 2 ~ me and my girls ~ birthday dinner at Outback ~

February 3 ~ my 64th! ~ how did that happen? ~ I took pictures of the party peeps as they geared up to sing .....

... the birthday song ...

.... my sister Jane traditionally leads the chorus and sets the key ~ she's hiding behind Kelly's camera

.... I like this point of view ~ makes me happy

February 4 ~ my great nephew Finn, along with my nephew Alex, and I share the same February 3rd birthdate ~ this was Finn's very first (celebrated on the 4th) ~ daughter Kelly captured this great snapshot of Mister ONE-derful enjoying his first birthday cake ~ this picture makes me happy ~ I may try this myself next birthday

February 9 ~ grandson Elijah + homework ~ straight A's, this kid

February 9 ~ Granddaughter Shelby at the wheel, practicing her driving skills ~ she's doing very well ~ only a few more months and she'll have her driver's license ~ her dad Jerry snapped this photo

February 10 ~ no filter, just the bright shining sunlight through the winter trees

February 10 ~ grandson Knox ~ happy feet on the trampoline

February 10 ~ one of those awesome winter sunsets that makes your jaw drop and frustrates the photographer who is unable to capture the reality of God's majestic artwork

February 11 ~ hubby Neil + chainsaw = what-could-possibly-go-wrong? ~ thankfully he's been able to cut down our two sick/mostly dead cherry trees without any tragic chainsaw mishaps ~ no lie!

February 11 ~ granddaughter Shelby created beautiful art for her room at home during a recent sleepover ~ she was escaping noisy boys at her house (that would be her little brother and two of their cousins) ~ I guess that makes us a sanctuary house ~ wonder if we can get federal funding? ~ probably not

February 16 ~ Happy Meal at McDonald's with grandson Knox ~ featuring Lego Batman movie stuff ~ he discovered the joy of  a (vintage-style) viewmaster that made the characters come to 3D life .....

... and also made for a way cool mask
February 17 ~ Tom Sawyer? Maybe Huck Finn? ~ at Dogwood Park
February 17 ~ Jerry and Shelby all decked out to attend the Father Daughter Dance ~ they had a great time

February 18 ~ grandson Elijah in motion playing with his team in a Vision Basketball game

February 19 ~ I heart Buttercups

February 19 ~ Spring Training

February 19 ~ Never ignore anything in the shape of a heart

February 20 ~ flock of geese over our house heading north ~ they were nearly gone by the time I managed to snap this picture ~ they must've thought that winter was over ~ the groundhog lied after all

February 21 ~ Elijah was beat after the basketball game which they lost by four points ~ adding insult to injury they had to play another game right after this one which they also lost ~ the team is still alive in the playoffs this week

February 23 ~ I heart clouds

February 24 ~ did I mention that I heart clouds? oh and sunsets

February 28 ~ peeps at BobbyQ's ~ Neil's birthday dinner

February 28 ~ 66!!

February 28 ~ party peeps ~ Kerry, Knox, Jerry, Shelby, Holly ...

.... and more party peeps ~ Don, Jane, Sarah, Kelly, and 'the old feller' himself ~ wishing him a happy birthday and many many more.
So long, February! That's a wrap.
"February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March."
